The Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation was established in 2006 as a nonprofit affiliate of our parent organization, Lex Mundi. Our mission is to engage Lex Mundi’s global network of more than 150 leading independent law firms across 100+ countries to support and empower those working to bring about high impact, sustainable, social and environmental change. Our flagship offering is our legal matchmaking program. We find and vet quality transnational legal projects with social entrepreneurs for our firms. Beyond the matchmaking program, we also offer legal mentoring services to help social entrepreneurs become savvy consumers of pro bono services, collate and distribute guidance documents on common issues and questions affecting social enterprises, identify and point to resources to assist organizations as they grow, and develop and facilitate clinics and other speaking engagements for the sector.

Inspired social entrepreneurs are working around the world to improve education, fight disease, combat global warming, protect civil rights and lift individuals out of poverty. For every grand challenge, there are dedicated social entrepreneurs working on creative solutions. Our mission at the Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation is clear: social entrepreneurs will be more successful at tackling the worlds’ biggest challenges if they have access to quality pro bono legal advice from lawyers in the Lex Mundi global network. Social enterprises will scale faster, serve more people, expand more quickly to new territories, raise more money, and have greater success. We are lawyers helping social entrepreneurs change the world.

A social entrepreneur is a changemaker-an innovative leader who uses entrepreneurial approaches to solve social problems in communities, regions, countries and sometimes the whole world. At the Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation we seek to support social entrepreneurs by matching them with critical, free legal services from our network of 160 member firms around the world. Through matchmaking, we ensure that social entrepreneurs are advised by highly knowledgeable lawyers from top-tier firms. And because Lex Mundi member firms are indigenous to the jurisdictions where the social entrepreneurs are working, the lawyers bring the advantage of local perspective and connections - helping social enterprise clients address challenges and take advantage of opportunities.

Eligible social entrepreneurs begin the matchmaking process by filling out our Client Intake Form. When the form is received, we set up an initial phone call to assess each client's individual needs and timing. We create a profile of the project and circulate it to law firms that are potential matches based on geographic jurisdiction and subject matter expertise. If a firm agrees to take on the pro bono project, we make an introduction, and the firm and client begin their work together. Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation does not provide legal services and is not involved in the legal aspects of the pro bono project once a match is made.
